The 2010 Chip Miller Surf Fest

Come on out for a good cause and a great time!

It’s that time of year again, when the good folks of Ocean City, NJ get together for the 7th Annual Chip Miller Surf Fest. A little known illness called Amyloidosis claimed the life of Chip Miller in 2004 and we are proud to support the event in his name to help increase amyloidosis research and awareness.. Amyloidosis is a group of diseases in which one or more organ systems in the body accumulate deposits of abnormal proteins known as amyloid. The name “amyloidosis” was first used more than 100 years ago, but cases were described over 300 years ago. (more…)

Before the Great White Attack

Before the Attack

This is not the first time the Cardiff Kook has been “vandalized”, but this has got to be the most radically successful attempt. Swallowed whole by a giant great white? Hat’s off to whoever pulled this prank off. Photo’s courtesy of Brian Chernicky at photographyencinitas.com

The birds are f–ked, the fish are f–ked, the people are f–ked and most of all BP is totally f–king f–ked. We all know it’s f–ked, so we are going to need to work together to unf–k it.

Barefoot Skateboarding

22 Jul

Without a doubt you have to be a good skateboarder and have some damn tough feet to skate this well with no shoes. Here’s Kaoli Kahokuloa shredding up the Sector Nine Bread Bowl barefoot. While the image below is not of Kaoli’s foot, odds are his toes are smiling too.

21 Jul

Former Southern California native turned Michiganite, Burton Hathaway, can’t shake the that surfing feeling. The old saying, “only a surfer knows the feeling” is definitely the driving force behind Burton’s surf sessions on Lake Michigan. Check out this video for a little insight into Burton’s love for surfing, even if it’s below freezing with snow on the ground, you can’t take the surf out of a surfer. Surfing 54th Street on July 20th, 2010

Empty Perfection. Insert self here.

For a summer that’s been cursed by south wind, it’s safe to say we got lucky this morning. While Surfline was forecasting the pesky south wind to really mess things up, fortunately the wind stayed mellow and the boys were able to score some nuggets in the 54th Street zone. Here’s a little sampling of the session. Click for (more…)

Devil’s Punch Bowls with Boyd Ruppelt

Boyd Ruppelt - Bombs Away! Photo by Brant Hayley

We just got this update from Boyde Ruppelt about his recent trip to Colorado. He ventured up to the Devil’s Punch Bowls for some fun drops on his Kayak. We’ve often considered kayaker’s as the surfers of the rivers. They have very much the same mentality, like a surfer who travels to all ends of the earth to find the best waves, kayaker’s do the same tracking down rivers with perfect water levels and waterfalls. Here’s some images from Boyd’s trip and a cool video of the mission. (more…)

Newport Rainbow

Rainbow in Newport Beach

Early Bird Gets the Rainbow

This is not common in July, but unless you woke up early this morning you missed some rainbow action in Newps. Fortunately, we captured the moment for you. How’s this trippy weather? It’s so hot faces are melting off people in the inland empire and we’ve got rainbows at the beach. Crikey, it looks like that Rainbow ends at Malarky’s.

Chasing swells with Cory Lopez

15 Jul

Cory Lopez riding a crazy wedge in Costa Rica

Things can go very wrong riding a wave like this, but Cory tamed the beast!

Right on the heals of Cory Lopez and Alek Parker’s successful Hurricane Alex mission, they hopped on a plane to score a solid southern hemi swell in Central America. The wave Cory rides at the 2:41 mark (pictured above) is insane. Enjoy the footage below thanks to our friends at O’Neill.
