Shaper of the Year
23 Nov
It was an honor to get an invite to Roberts Surfboards Shaper of the Year party. It made heading up to Ventura from the OC, even at the risk of death by Los Angeles traffic jam, a no brainer. Definitely have been seeing a lot more Robert’s boards down south, even last time I was in San Diego there was a guy ripping a White Diamond. Goes to show everybody wants to surf like Dane Reynolds. Just check out Dane’s Thrills, Spills and What Not for a couple clips of him on the Robert’s White Diamond. It’s good to see that the little guys can still rise to the top of the surfboard world. Should be an inspiration to all the struggling shapers out there, surround yourself with good people, keep it positive, understand your customers and shape darn good boards. It probably helps that Rob is an excellent surfer too; it allows him to really feel how his boards work. If you’ve ever met Robert you know really just a surf stoked grom and if he had it his way he’d just surf 24hrs a day. Luckily for us, he manages to spend most of his time in the shaping bay. Below are some photos from last Saturday’s Robert’s Surfboards Shaper of the Year Party in downtown Ventura. It was held at a small art gallery, which was perfect setting for Good food, good music, good people and damn good boards! Enjoy! (more…)
