Dam that Cancer SUP on Lake Austin

Paddling for a good cause!


Earlier this year we sponsored the 1st Annual Dam that Cancer Dam to Dam Paddle which went down on June 28th, 2010. Teams of stand up paddle boarders came together to paddle the entire 20-mile length of Lake Austin to raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. From survivor, to brother, mother, father or friend of somebody touched by this disease, we’d like to thank all who are in support of this cause! Big ups to the SUP community for continuing to find ways to give back.

What lies beneath?


The 2010 Catalina Classic Paddleboard Race went down last weekend under relatively calm seas and favorable weather. It was the 35th running of the race, and with all the recent shark sitings, one would think this year was maybe a bit more exciting than years past. Of course, over the 32 mile ocean trek we didn’t hear any commotion about shark sitings, just a couple sun fish and a grey whale. Nick Meistrell captured some great pics, scroll through (more…)

Over the past few years there’s been many claims of Great White Shark sitings in the San Onofre area. As far as we know this is the first time anybody has captured some solid video. Leave it up to hellman Chuck Patterson and his new GoPro Camera to get up close and personal with this 9ft Great White. I guess when you’ve already skiied off a 140ft cliff and tow-surfed some of the biggest waves in the world, this is just another walk in the park. No doubt, this will have everybody thinking twice next time they’re surfing Old Mans.

You’d have to be living under a rock not to notice the recent explosion of paddleboard activities, especially the SUP variety. While SUP’s been making most the headlines lately, the overall paddleboard scene is nothing new when you consider this is the 15th Annual Hennessey’s Paddleboard Race Series. With Freestyle ambassador, Slater Trout, in the 14′ Elite Stand Up division, we headed down to see all the hoopla. (more…)
