Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades

Big ups to our boy Anthony Walsh for busting through a field of the world best surfers to claim 2nd place in the 2010 Volcom Pipeline Pro. As they say, 2nd place is the first loser, but when you come 2nd to Jamie O’Brien, arguably the best Pipe surfer in the world, you could still call it a victory!

While Walshy made the most of his opportunities, often times surfing pipe comes down to a game of inches. Inches from making it or inches from getting slaughtered. Of the many insane rides that went down during the contest, this backdoor ride from Cory Lopez is the one that got away. So close, yet so far away. If he makes it he lives to surf another heat, unfortunately for Cory he got clipped and was sent home early. Probably still playing this ride in his mind. One thing for sure, Cory will be back!
